For three years I was fortunate enough to be both coordinating and teaching both Vocational Studies and Work Education and in the development and implementation of Careers Educa­tion for Mercedes College. More recently I have been integral in the implementation of vocational pathways at Saint Stephen's College; delivering a Diploma of Business, Diploma Marketing, Cert III Business and Cert III Events.

 

I find Vocational Education one of the most rewarding and challenging subjects to teach. Through experiences in both workplace and VET training organizations, students develop their knowledge of workplace skills which enables them to manage successful transitions to post school life.

 

In the classroom, I focus on goal setting, decision making and contingency planning. Each student's assessment is addressed on a case by case basis. I encourage students to develop their interpersonal skills, workplace commu­nication skills and build their confidence and self-esteem. The course is developed in order for students to gain knowledge and skills with relevance to their specific industry area, enhancing their employment prospects.
