At the age of twenty, I established my first business. This was a life changing event. Not only did I have to quickly learn the administrative processes of operating and managing a small business, but I also learnt how important it was to be self-motivated. In the past twelve years, this self-motivation and inner drive has given me the energy to start another three businesses with my partner.
My students in both IB Business Management and Business Studies have found this very intriguing. The energy and enthusiasm I have for small business is contagious. Recently, my current Business Studies Coordinator made me aware of this. She commented that since I started teaching Senior Business at Mercedes College, enrollments in Business Studies have doubled and IB Business Management has increased by a massive 400%.
I feel very strongly about teaching subjects that I have wider expanse of experience other than the classroom. l feel very well qualified to pass on my knowledge when I have had experience such as:
-
Being personally responsible for managing state marketing teams on behalf Australia's second largest telecommunications company, resulting in excel 5 of 15 million dollars in consumer revenue. This coupled with by vast business to business experience on both a representative and consulting level.
-
Spending several years marketing small business clients that experience in excess of 300% growth in the time I was a consultant for them.
-
Developing joint marketing strategies with Sony, BMG Australia & Australian Idol Series and Channel Ten Big Brother Series.
-
Managing and coordinating million dollar corporate events for clients including Westfield Corporation, Myer Center and Adelaide City Council.
The teaching methodology that I use in the classroom is varied and engaging. Students feed off my real life experience and regularly state how grateful they are that when they ask me a question, I can back up my answer with a situation or experience that I have encountered.
