One of my more notable professional Design experiences was the appointment as one of the six Expert Writers for the Queensland 2019 Design Syllabus. This process took approximately three years that included writing the units, and personally writing TLAPS that are now published on the QCAA Portal. I was also responsible for the delivery of the Syllabus through two day workshops with the Design Teachers in Queensland for QCAA. Finally I was part of the process for the External Examination for Unit 4.
As a professional in marketing and design for many years, I have had the opportunity to use many of the tools offered in the area of IT and Design to produce applications such as brochures, corporate packages, catalogues, e-newsletters print newsletters and web design and video for various corporate clients.
For the past ten years I have been fortunate enough to pass on my life skills, to students as a secondary teacher and Head of Faculty at Saint Stephen's College and previously Mercedes College in Adelaide. As a Design Teacher, I have introduced units of work that incorporate many of the primary design elements and principles, and the use of computer software to create work such as building design, industrial design, graphic design, corporate/business branding, fashion and costume design, web design and film editing.
Students have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to take a greater look at the use of graphic communication and it's effectiveness in the world we live in. Students have been encouraged to investigate and use the design process to develop through technical and computer manipulation, a range of visual imagery to a set design brief.
